A Guide to the Different Types of Hajj | Tamattu, Ifrad, and Qiran

Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, and it is a pilgrimage that Muslims are required to make at least once in their lifetime if they are able. The Hajj is a journey of spiritual and physical purification, and it is a time for Muslims to come together from all over the world to worship Allah in this article we learn 3 types of Hajj.
There Are Three Types of Hajj:
- Hajj Tamattu
- Hajj Ifrad
- Hajj Qiran
1. What is Hajj Tamattu?
Hajj Tamattu’ is the most common type of Hajj. It involves performing the Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) before the Hajj. This means that the pilgrim enters the state of Ihram for the Umrah, performs the Tawaf (circumambulation of the Kaaba) and Saee (running between Safa and Marwah), and then shaves or cuts their hair. They then exit the state of Ihram and can resume their normal life.
On the 8th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the pilgrim enters the state of Ihram for the Hajj and performs the remaining rites, including the Tawaf al-Wada’ (farewell Tawaf), the standing at Arafat, the stoning of the Jamarat, and the sacrifice of an animal.
2. What is Hajj Ifrad?
Hajj Ifrad is a type of Hajj where the pilgrim only performs the Hajj rites. They do not perform the Umrah before the Hajj. This means that the pilgrim enters the state of Ihram for the Hajj directly and then performs all of the Hajj rites.
3. What is Hajj Qiran?
Hajj Qiran is a type of Hajj where the pilgrim combines the Hajj and Umrah rites. This means that the pilgrim enters the state of Ihram for both the Umrah and the Hajj at the same time. They then perform the Tawaf and Sa’i for the Umrah, and then they perform the remaining Hajj rites.
The choice of which type of Hajj to perform is a personal one. Some people prefer to perform Hajj Tamattu’ because it allows them to perform the Umrah at a time when they are not in the state of Ihram for the Hajj. This can be helpful if they want to visit the Kaaba and perform the Umrah at a time when it is not as crowded.
Other people prefer to perform Hajj Ifrad because they want to focus on the Hajj rites and not have to worry about performing the Umrah as well.
Hajj Qiran is a good option for people who want to combine Umrah and Hajj in one journey. This can be a more efficient way to perform the two pilgrimages, and it can also be a more spiritual experience.
No matter which type of Hajj you choose, it is a journey that will be both physically and spiritually challenging. However, it is also a journey that will be incredibly rewarding. If you can make the Hajj, it will be an experience that you will never forget.
